I work with toddlers and elementary-age children who are experiencing a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. Sometimes this can be related to a specific stressor like a divorce or a traumatic event. Within a therapeutic environment, children can feel safe to process their feelings and work through problems in a developmentally appropriate way.
Common concerns that I treat with children include:
Major life events such as divorce, new baby, or moving
Grief and loss
Post-traumatic stress
Anger and emotion regulation
ADHD
Separation anxiety
General anxiety
Phobias
School avoidance
Adoption
Youth ages 9-12 (or "tweens") can be starting or nearing puberty and often experience shifting social dynamics, which can contribute to an increase in mood disorders like anxiety and depression. My work with youth in these ages is focused on building confidence, positive self-esteem, and healthy peer relationships.
Common issues that I treat with adolescents and teens include:
Social anxiety
General anxiety
OCD
Low self worth
Navigating friendships
Family changes
Building basic life skills for adulthood
I offer parent counseling to all parents who either have a child in therapy or who are needing extra support. Parenting is hard! Raising children who are growing and learning often means that parents are learning and growing alongside.
Sessions for parents may include:
Managing parental stress and burnout
Providing actionable strategies and frameworks for managing specific behaviors
Improving the parent-child relationship
Understanding your family values and how it impacts your parenting
Helping your child thrive within their current stage of development and growth
